Windy. Over the last couple of days, there have been long runnels of foam streaking down the Caloosahatchee River, and even whitecaps. Pretty impressive for a sheltered and shallow (although wide) river! Here's a shot from a webcam at Matlacha Pass (not far from where we are):

I like that one because of the palm trees showing you exactly how windy it is!

Just for comparison, here is the same shot at whatever time you personally chose to load this blog (I think that's how it works):

OK, I just had to include this article from last Friday's welcoming reception for Derek... I mean, they had the space, why not use "and"??? Now we can call him not only Your Eminence, but an "Artifact From NASA." This just gets better!

Vessel Name: Parallax
Vessel Make/Model: 37' Prout Snowgoose (1982)
Hailing Port: Pensacola
Crew: Derek, Heather and Grant
About:
Two astronomers, looking for variable stars and adventure. After cruising the Caribbean aboard S/V Paradox for 18 months in the early 90s, the crew swallowed the anchor and had a child, always planning their next Great Adventure: cruising under sail with Grant, showing him the world. [...]
Extra:
We knew that if we ever got a catamaran, we'd want a name to celebrate her twin-hulledness. Parallax is seeing the same thing from two slightly different points of view, which with our two eyes is what gives humans our depth perception. It's also a good metaphor for one of the benefits of marriage. [...]
