The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Leg Three - Cabo San Lucas

Pat
We motored the whole way (180 NM) from Bahia Santa Maria to Cabo San Lucas.

We got a slip in the marina, us and 6 other boats are squeezed into a slip made for a 100' mega yacht. We have fresh water and electricity. We gave Starshine a good wash down after we arrived. Chris and I did the outside with Melodie and Carrie cleaning the cabin.

We did good on provisioning, as there are only some soups and a bag of potato chips left over. Chris and Carrie took the shuttle to the airport this morning.

Melodie and I had planned on going over to Mazatlan first, but we've changed our minds. We will work our way up to La Paz, about 150 NM north of us, just inside the Sea of Cortez.

The Baja Ha-Ha finished with a big beach party at Mango's beach bar. I saw a Tequila vendor, known as "Mr Johnson". I asked if he was the same guy who sold my friend Gerald some tequila back in 2007. He said indeed he was, as he's had this job for 13 years.

Melodie and I participated in the "From Here to Eternity" Kissing Contest.....WE WON! I'm a little anxious to see the photos, as I too purchased some tequila from Mr. Johnson. The contest involved re-enacting the famous scene from the movie. Mostly Melodie and I rolled around in the surf, laughing, kissing, and trying not to swallow to much sea water. We are now infamous among the other fleet members.

The internet continues to be a challenge. We thought we'd go to a local bar and buy a drink, thereby getting their wifi code. When we got back to the boat and tried to enter the code, it had expired. I guess they are onto the cheap tourists who try to use their wifi. I'm sitting in a different bar now, slowly drinking a Pacifico so I can use their wifi.

Melodie and I are shove off for La Paz tomorrow. We'll be taking day trips, stopping in Puerto Los Cabos, and two other anchorages before arriving in La Paz.

That's all for now, or until I can get more bandwidth.
