The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Dolphins

Pat
We are seeing lots of wild life here in the anchorage. When the dolphins swim by you can hear them breathing. The photo is of a baby and her mother.

There are schools of fish enjoying the shade offered by Starshine as she rides at anchor. The fish make bubbling sounds as the break the surface of the water.

The fish attract the pelicans and other birds, who are constantly dive bombing for fish. We have to shoo them off the bow pulpit every now and then. We don't want them getting comfortable on our boat.

We are finding a pretty good balance between having fun and working on the boat. Some days we designate as "Chore Days" so that we don't get behind on keeping things going. I have a list for when Melodie travels to Wisconsin for the holidays.

We got 2 inches of rain in an hour last week. The rain did a great job of washing the dirt off the deck. The problem is the dirt ran down the sides of the boat, causing a tiger stripe effect. I took a bucket/soap/water/rag in the dinghy and went around the boat trying to scrub it off. It worked ok, but not as effective as I was hoping. I mistakenly did this without a shirt. My first sun burn of our cruising life. You really have to watch the sun down here at 20 degrees of latitude.

Melodie did her first load of "Bucket Laundry". It turned out pretty well, especially when we heard someone on the morning radio net. They were looking for the owner of some laundry that had gotten mixed in with their stuff at the local laundromat.
