The Baja Bash

Preparing for the Baja Bash (the trip north from Mexico to California). They call it “The Bash” because the prevailing winds and waves are from the northwest. So you are basically going uphill (if that makes any sense).

Pat
Today is Saturday May 30, 2015.

We have landed back in the world of wifi and the internet! We left La Paz on April 24, and tied up in San Carlos on May 27.

A lot has happened since our last blog posting. We spent a week in Bahia Conception by ourselves. We moved around to 3 different anchorages during our time there. We started in Posasa Conception, then Playa Santispac, and mostly at Bahia Coyote. We got to go swimming in the nice warm water.

We went on walks and hiked over to Geary’s Ham Radio Shack in El Burro Cove. Geary is a weather nut who provides weather forecasts for Mexico on the HF radio. Both Melodie and I have our Ham licenses. Geary does the weather on the Sonrisa Net. We also listen to the Amigo Net.

We left Bahia Conception after one week and moved to Santa Domingo. It is just inside the point of Point Conception. We had thought about going to Santa Rosalia, but chose not to. We met up with S/V Serena and had them over for cocktails.

We made the crossing over to San Carlos on Tuesday, May26. It was a really goods trip. We saw sea turtles, dolphins, jumping sting rays and even pilot whales. We went 78 NM in 10 hours and 40 minutes.

When we arrived on the mainland side of the Sea of Cortez we anchored in Bahia Algodones. We went ashore and had lunch at the Soggy Paw Bar. This place is one beach over from the now defunct Club Med resort. Melodie and I vacationed here back in the 1990’s with my family.

That’s all for now.
