Today is Friday October 16, 2015.
We had a good trip up to see the Orthopedist in Arizona. All accept the part where the Doctor took the week off and did not cancel my appointment! I met with the Nurse Practitioner and have an extended F/U visit in December. I continue to work on my own for physical therapy. I'm making progress, it's just slow. For example, I used my left hand to open a jar of spaghetti sauce last night, yipee!
We're making good progress on getting the boat put back together. The head sails are back up and the running rigging is all in place. We installed the new VHF radio and it works great. We were going to give away the old VHF that was not receiving well, but it has our MMSI number programmed into it. If we gave it away and the new owner pushed the panic button, our code would display and rescue personnel would think Starshine was in trouble. So we've decided not to donate it. The local radio shop did not have the software to delete our MMSI number.
We got the alternator rebuilt with the parts we ordered while back in the US. Same with the exhaust mixing elbow. I was very disappointed to find a leak on our mixing elbow I replaced in August of 2014, 400 engine hours ago. Normally this is a 5-7 year maintenance item. My frustration was abated when I read an article in the Cruising Compass about Yanmar mixing elbows and their frequent failure rate.
Melodie and I both agree that San Carlos is a very pretty place. The rocks, cactus, and desert make for a picturesque setting. With all the rain we've had it is surprisingly green. The rain also brings mosquitoes which bite at us during our morning walks. They manage to stay away from the boat, which is a good thing.
The photo is the fuel dock, as seen from our slip.
We are looking forward to leaving Marina San Carlos next week. Starshine has not left the slip since June 10, the longest period since we've owned her. We'll spend 1-3 days at anchor before pushing off for Mazatlan. Our exact route is still under discussion.
We're looking forward to another season in Mexico and catching up with old friends and making new ones.
That's all for now.
