Almost ready

26 February 2011
Paulie
Ok, finally I'm updating this blog! We left Storm Haven in La Paz January 17th and got back here to Wellton January 20th to get the final stuff ready for our "Puddle Jump" across the Pacific to the Marquesas! And to do our income taxes, of course;>( But, Tuesday, March 1, 2011 we're heading back towards La Paz and Storm Haven. A very good friend of Don's, Roger, is being so very generous and taking us all the way back to La Paz. We thought we were gonna have to fly back with Bootsie, our Kitty. And so we weren't looking forward to that. Now, since we found out Roger would haul us all the way down there, we've managed to find box loads of stuff we just "had to take back to StormHaven"! Not sure where we're gonna put all of this stuff. But, we manage to stuff in every nook & cranny until it's all stored.

Our plan is to stay in La paz for a few days and celebrate "Carnival" there the weekend of March 6th. Then get the last little bit of items we need and head towards Los Frailes to watch for a weather window. Then on to San Jose' Los Cabos to fuel up and ---- we're on our way! We'd like to be headed out on the 15th of March. Of course that does depend on the weather. Pretty much all is ready on Storm Haven. Don & I are both excited and a little anxious at the same time. It's a big trip. But we have a lot of company with lots of other boats heading across too, although not exactly at the same time. It's been quite an experience getting ready. Just getting Booties qualified to get into New Zealand when we go there in November/December for the Cyclone season has been a hugh endevor!! But Storm Haven has brand new electronic stabilizers, a SAT phone, lots of backup electronics and navigational equipment, including an AIS which Don loves, new carpeting, etc., etc.. She's getting shades made for the top and foredeck with wind scoops for when we get to the South Pacific.

Well, I'll update when we finally head across. We'd love to hear from you all.

'Till we meet again"

We've been cruising the Sea of Cortez for a little better than 20 years. Living and running our farm in Wellton, Arizona, 30 miles east of Yuma, it wasn't a long drive to the Sea and with six kids it was our "time alone". Now that Don has officially retired - as of 12/31/2009 - we're off to see [...]
