OMG! We're Gonna Get Married
07 December 2012 | Marina at Emerald Bay, Georgetown, Exumas
We made it! At long last, actually 31 days of sweating the weather and whether we would be able to attend our own wedding! Yaaay!
We left Warderick Wells Tuesday and sailed on the Banks side because the ocean was still too fierce for us. it was a lumpy, rolly day and we only saw one other boat all day. Tell you something? We anchored overnight off Black Point, one of Maryann's favorites, and didn't even go to shore. We just wanted to be ready to leave at dawn. In the morning, if the weather allowed we would sail the last 42nm to our destination.
Wednesday morning just as we were pulling up the anchor, the mainsail already up, a 30 kt squall hit. We waited it out, watching our anchor drag. Out the cut we went after that into 4ft ENE swells with 2-3 ft wind chop. Another rolly day!
We made excellent time and got to the marina entrance early. I had called the marina about the entrance asking for advice, as I had heard "tales" from other cruisers. They advised not to try to enter if the swells were 6 ft or the winds were 20 knots. If was close to 20 kts when we approached but the swell was not 6 ft. So we went for it. And boy, was it the toad's wild ride! Talk about a pucker factor!
Whew! We made it safely and in plenty of time to prep for our wedding next week. The picture is us at the dock in the marina. Can't you tell we look less stressed now?
