Sula in the Sea of Cortez

After a 3 day journey back to AZ during some heavy rains that made travel interesting, Sula now sits on her trailer back in Prescott awaiting a new home. Graduation went as planned on the 13th, thanks to my family for the support all the way through and for coming to Arizona to share the ceremony. Sula is now up for sale, Im asking $6500 for EVERYTHING associated with the boat.

Swimming with Sea lions

At a few anchorages up north there have been sea lions hanging around. they are really curious creatures and spend a lot of time checking you out while you are swimming

In general they don't mind you being there. The big Bulls will get a little territorial at times and show it by swimming right at you and blowing bubbles in your face at which point it is wise to turn around and swim the other direction, no sense in starting a fight with a scurvy old sea dog.

I'm as surprised as you are.

We sailed right through a jumping party of sorts, they were just blasting out of the water all around us, can't for the life of me think why besides that it looked like a ton of fun.

We have some new crew aboard since we left Kino. Ella besides being a sailing instructor also happens to be a professional food planer. She'll be sailing the rest of the trip with us and we're really happy to have her along.

Because this trip is a school project for Zak we spend a lot of time trying to find interesting living things in the Sea. When We find them we either photograph them or put them in a bucket to examine on the boat. Some of the interesting things in the Sea also happen to be delicious in which case we use the spear for sample collection. Here are a few pics of the sample collection process and interesting specimens.

About:	Zak is a twenty two year old degree candidate at Prescott College in Arizona. [...] Ross made the unfortunate decision at the age of 16 to buy a sailboat with the money he had saved up for a car; he has rarely arrived on time since. Extra:	Sula is a 1979 Chrysler 22 "Sandpiper" Shes rigged for heavy [...] weather but is still capable of making good speed in light wind. The reason for this expedition to the Sea of Cortez is to explore and document the region and its life. This expedition will follow loosely along the path of John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts' expedition of 1941, which gave way to The Log from the Sea of Cortez. Our study sites will be the original "tidepooling stations" visited by Ricketts and Steinbeck in 1941. The data collection and comparison to the the 1941 journey, as well as a detailed ships log and Grinnell style field journal will be the basis for Zak's senior project. The intended route (In Red) follows a similar route to Steinbecks (In black) More
