During July the family managed to get out to the yard to have a look see....on a cold and rainy day.
Big milestone was the engine options that were tabled for decision making. Cut a long story, we decided to replace the 80hp Cummins 4B engines with new Nanni 100hp inclusive of new gauges, controls, gearboxes etc etc. Nanni had recommended that we install 115hp motors but budget did not allow. The negotiated deal was for the 100hp with mechanical gear boxes giving a better torque ratio closer to what Nanni had suggested with the 115's, at a cost we could afford....if any of that makes sense....! ?
Andrew had also provided a cost breakdown of all the extra's to date, as well as the extra costs related to the new engines......well that takes care of our contingency : (
By the end of June the engines had been ordered and extra's agreed / not agreed on.
Andrew has been told that there are to be no more extra's, ie that if it isn't in the original agreement or in the agreed extra's, it does not happen. There is no more money. Period
Work on the boat consisted of the removal of all the portholes and all the hole / infill plates being cut. The starboard aft cabin was being rebuilt to match the port side cabin.
Somewhere during this time, hatch frames were also made....or should I say they were 'purpose made' to suit the deck camber.
We had also decided that the maple flooring would be a good idea and was included in the agreed extra's. Andrew had also nocked up a sample block in maple. Gorgeous, even with linseed oil !!
Unfortunately tho we do not have the finances to make new blocks.....maybe in a few years time : (
All the 'old' blocks that came with the boat, were stripped down, sanded and soaked in linseed oil. They came out nicely.
We decided that the sole and any exterior wood (excluding blocks) would be finished in Woodoc Marine 'matt', which is a sealer not a varnish, and was chosen for ease of maintenance and looks.
