02 March 2014 | Mazatlan to Isla Isabella
Well, we are off. The motor got us out of the marina and out into the ocean. We put up the sails and sailed for a long time averaging 5 – 6 knots. The winds died around 9 PM and we started the motor. Running the motor and Mr. Benmar was good; we had both the freezer and refrigerator being used for tall the food on board. Getting some sleep in the night. We saw a few passing yachts and ships. Just as dawn was coming the winds picked up and we started sailing again. We got into Isla Isabella anchorage about 10:30. We had lunch and then went on a exploration to see the Frigate Birds and Boobies. We walked up and down and thru the woods and didn’t see Grandma’s house, but we did see the outhouses that are used by the local fishermen here. They are labeled and for each one privately I believe,. Iguanas were al over and so were the birds. It was like Alfred Hitchcock’s Movie ‘The Birds’. They were circling everywhere and there were thousands of them.
I swam a while and cleaned a lot of stuff off the bottom of the boat. I need a bottom job I think. Saw a bunch of fish too under and around the boat. They were the small 1 – 2 inch fish. Interesting thing happened. As I was underwater, I heard the whales singing, or talking as it were, and as I have the CD of it, I was not hallucinating. Yep, it was an awesome event. I have seen the humpbacks breaching and waving their fins many times here in Mexico. It is great.
Anchoring was a bit nerve wracking as there were two boats in and I needed to get a spot between them. I did. While I was swimming I checked the anchor and it seemed good.
