Virgin Gorda

hot
Since Thanksgiving Day we have remained in the northern area of Virgin Gorda in Gorda Sound. We spent several days by Saba Rock and The Bitter End. The weather has been hot and the winds have died down. The arrival of jellyfish has prevented us from getting in the water and made the hot days seem hotter. We decided to rent a car and take a tour of the island. We did some hiking and climbed to the top of the highest area on the island in the National Park. There were thousands of orchids and aloe plants. Unfortunately, most of the orchids were not in bloom at this time. There were plenty of other wild flowers and this area is considered a rain forest. After the hike we made our way south, remembering to stay on the left side of the road. We headed to The Baths. This is an area where there are large rock formations both on the land and in the water. You can snorkel in this area but today the waves were huge and only a few very brave and then scared people were in the water. The waves were so strong on the shoreline that those that ventured out were tossed about and sent crashing toward the huge rocks. We quickly decided that a walking tour would be the best way to go. The kids made their way over the rocks like mountain goats and we followed slowly behind. The kids said this was their favorite part of the trip so far. With our clothes and shoes full of sand and water we headed to the copper mine and a quick look a Little Dix's Bay. We had lunch near the yacht club and then back to the boat.
