Sat, March 25 - to Addison Point, NE anchorage
13 May 2017
Partly cloudy 66/74F ESE 10-20
Trip today: 70 miles in 8.5 hours
At 8:15 we were off the dock and heading out the Harbortown Marina channel. With the current in our favour and a nice breeze, we rolled out the jib and were doing 8.4 knots SOG. At 9:45 we pulled into the Vero Beach marina for a quick fuel stop. While Brian topped up our tank I went to say goodbye to the crew of 's/v Elle & I' who had just sold her and today were handing her over to the new owner...a sad day for sure, but now they're ready for new adventures as 'dirt dwellers'!
The fuel dock crew were very efficient and half an hour later we were back on the ICW, moving quickly in the 15 knot breeze. It certainly helped that today's 8 bridges were all 65' so there was no slowing down! It was a beautiful day and we saw several groups of dolphins and not a lot of boat traffic. At 5:45, as we approached the Addison Point bridge, our only lift bridge for today, the bridge operator raised it promptly and we quickly passed through without having to slow down at all. The bridge is part of the NASA Causeway that gives access to Merritt Island and the Kennedy Space Center.
We quickly turned eastward and anchored in the Addison Point NE anchorage, which is bordered to the south by the NASA Causeway and to the east we had a hazy view of the Assembly building and the rocket that was scheduled to launch in the next couple of days. After dinner, we relaxed in the cockpit and gazed up at the millions of stars and constellations overhead...amazed that we were sitting here at Cape Canaveral/Kennedy, looking at a rocket that would soon be launched into that sky!
