a postcard from Coos Bay
04 November 2009
Yes, that's right. We made a run for the border -- the southern one after all. A window opened up and after much discussion, we decided to turn left instead of right and (re)pursue our original plan. Kept it quiet except to people who needed to know. We were keeping an eye on a low pressure system and thought we might make it further than we did. Several entries ago I specifically mentioned that getting stuck in places like Coos Bay wasn't what we wanted to do, and thus had made the decision to go north -- I have to say that right now, Coos Bay looks quite lovely compared to the alternative.
Here's an idea of what's going on right now: Check out this weather blog entry Looks like we'll be getting to know the locals! I'll write all about my first offshore experience, night watches, and all that good stuff either tomorrow or the next day. The harbormaster and staff here in Charleston Marina are wonderful. There may not be a huge variety of things to do or places to go, but there's ocean-watching, local culture, and a chance to catch up with boat projects, reading, and making new friends. I formally, fully and heartily retract any unkind reference I might have made or insinuated toward Coos Bay. Have I mentioned that I really don't want to end up in a place like, say, Bora Bora? |
