Quiet Nawiliwili

a few less rain squalls, time to leave
Well, Nawiliwili has been a 'drag' for us. We tried numerous times to find a holding spot but we were awaken at midnight 091012 to the thump of our keel on the bottom. Thank goodness, we didn't hit another boat in our drifting back with the wind. I told Scott, maybe we shouldn't have the fan so loud but the true problem was the anchor had held the first 30 hours and Scott hadn't set the anchor alarm that 2nd night.
We jumped up, slowly got out of the shallows then Scott was pretty much 'on watch' when again at 4:30am, we started up the engine again to re-anchor as we drifted back in the heavy winds. We had lights coming off shore so at least we could see pretty well.
I chose the Buoy Tender as my picture because it appeared the night after our 2 re-anchors. Scott slept in until 9am, I didn't go back to sleep after 4:30am so I was first to see them and wondered if we'd have to move AGAIN. They were working on the buoy in front of us, #7 and we were too close to #9 for them to work but we were glad to see them go back to the dock and leave us alone.
We took two days to explore the city but put out a 2nd anchor before leaving the boat today. The bus is $.50 a person and it dropped us right near the mall and Walmart. Within walking distance was the park, Marriott and the Anchor Cove. We heard there were showers at the small boat harbor but they were outside with cold water so back to the boat we went to enjoy our warm sun shower inside our 'head'.
We leave tomorrow for Palmyra now that we have our approval and our $350 no-rat certification. I spoke to a few people trying to make them understand that our 'tiny' boats are not going to carry a rat without us knowing it but for now, we have to pay it if we want to stop there. After our 7 day allowance, we'll continue to Fanning and Christmas Island for up to 2 months. Until next time!
