The Ides of March
25 March 2013 | Lauderdale to Miami
Freddi
It has been said that you should never start a cruise on a Friday, so let’s just say we decided to continue our trip south on Friday, March 15. Those of you who remember history – or more likely Shakespeare – the Ides of March (in this case the 15th) was also a fateful day. So here we are, tempting all the fates, leaving our fabulous anchorage in Ft. Lauderdale’s Lake Sylvia, and heading south to Miami. It was a short but easy journey, allowing us the luxury of leaving late morning and arriving late afternoon. One of our trolling lines caught a very small tuna, described as “too small to butcher” so Scott threw it back and told him to send his daddy. Smart fish did no such thing! We had our anchor down in the Marine Stadium anchorage in plenty of time for cocktails and a stunning sunset over the Miami Skyline. That said, having escaped the all the soothsayers’ evil prophecies, we settled in for the night when a powerboat nearby started playing endless 142-beat aerobics music for the next 12 hours. Closed the hatches and slept well, awaking before first light for our trip to the Keys. We plan to return here and perhaps to Dinner Key on our trip back north to enjoy more of Miami.
