Windbound
12 November 2009 | Thoroughfare Creek, SC
We decided to stay put today as the next anchorage is very exposed and 35kt winds are predicted for this evening. However, that did not mean we got to sleep in. Poor Murph didn't get his shore trip last evening as it was pouring rain and he was up at 5 and in the cockpit looking a little uncomfortable. We got up in short order and as soon as there was a hint of daylight started getting the dinghy deployed. Alas, it was not fast enough for Murph. He started pacing back and forth on the deck in frantic anticipation and as Mom was releasing the spinnaker halyard to lower the dinghy, her foot started feeling unusually warm and wet. Poor Murph, he was mortified. However, Mom was quick to praise him as we have been trying and trying to get him to go on the deck.....although her foot was not the place we had been trying to get him to use. It also trashed one of her two pairs of wool socks, as they won't dry any time soon in the weather. At any rate, Murphy got to shore in short order and was able to gain complete relief.
The rest of the day was spent with boat chores and knitting. Jim checked and topped off the oil, cleaned the strainers and did a little maintenance on keeping the all-important head in good working order. Kathy finished a vest she was knitting and started a couple of other knitting projects. Her friend Polly would be proud. Unfortunately she is no where near finishing her first sock project. They would come in handy about now.
We talked a bit to the adjacent boat in the anchorage. They are a pair of French Canadians with no scheduled return date and 2 little ones on board. All 4 of them braved the cold to play on the beach a bit. I guess you have to keep the 2-legged children entertained just like our 4-legged ones.
