Tired Puppy
28 November 2009 | Cumberland Island
A big 7 mile trip today from St Mary's back north to Cumberland Island. The most challenging part of the day was getting out of our parallel parking spot at Lang's Marina. With the help of several people on the dock, boat hooks, and good piloting from my dear spouse, we backed out unscathed, that includes all the neighboring boats as well. I vowed to never take one of these parallel spots on an inside fairway again. However, it was fun being onshore for all of the action and Murphy got a lot more shore time than usual so he was happy.
Cumberland Island was as beautiful as ever. This time we visited the Dungeness ruins where the Carnegies reigned at the turn of the last century. Although the wooden structure burned many years ago, you could still visualize the splendor from the remaining stone walls.
After touring the grounds we headed down to the beach where we were treated to the best dolphin show I've ever seen. A large group of them were playing in the shallows in the surf, leaping out of the water, spinning, and leaping over one another. Too fast to catch on camera, but you've seen the show at Sea World. These guys were just doing it for free. We were touring with our friends from MaryLee including their mighty chihuahua, Goliath. Murphy and Goliath spent their time racing at full speed in circles on the hard-packed sand. Murphy is fast, but Goliath can turn more sharply and the game continued until Murphy turfed Goliath one too many times and the little guy had to retreat to the shelter of Papa's arms.
After the walk, it was back to the boats where two tired, tired puppy dogs hit the sack.
Since reveille was going to be very early tomorrow, we were not very far behind.
