Chasing the Storm
06 December 2009 | Vero Beach
What a crummy day I have to admit. We chased some ugly storms all the way to Vero Beach. Fortunately the worst of it, i.e. the tornado watch box and major lightning, stayed in front of us. However, it was wet and the visibility was zip at times. I don't think I've ever seen so many lightning strikes on the Sirius weather radar before. The weather was caught between two stationary fronts and it was nasty. Murphy was shaking in his boots with every clap of thunder but in reality nothing was really close to us and we were quite safe.
We made it by mid-afternoon to Vero Beach where we fueled up and got a mooring for a few nights. Can't complain, roughly 1000 miles and 110 gals of fuel. Kind of a cheap vacation.....if you don't count all the boat gadgets we keep buying ;-)
It's cold here now, down in the 60s, but I can't complain about that either after talking to the folks shivering at home in the 30s. Vero is a great place and it is fun to be back here. We spent a week or so here two years ago and the amenities are great. Easy shopping, nice laundry facilities and even a dog park for Murph.
