We crossed the Cape Fear River with no issue and pulled into the first anchorage at Southport. After circling a couple of times Mr Towboat pointed out the free dock to us. Remember, you don't get something for nothing. However, with free water, free electricity, and friendly locals to help us tie up it's hard to complain. We spent the afternoon enjoying the warm weather and touring the town. It's famous for civil war blockade runners and the fabulous homes that they built with their earnings.
