We decided to leave Charleston on Thanksgiving Day. It was sunny but very gusty and it took a good hour to get Charm pried off of the dock. We had no sooner gotten out into the harbor when we noticed that the engine temperature gage was pegged. We shut it down and raised the sails...on the ICW you almost forget you're a sailboat sometimes. However, with the wind and current there was no way we were sailing into the dock so it was time for a call to TowBoat US. The young operator did a great job getting us into the famous MegaDock, but I will admit that I was a little worried when his engine alarm went off. Apparently even 500hp of engine has trouble turning a 22000 lb full keel sailboat.
We spent the next day working on the engine in the shadow of this giant luxury yacht. They didn't invite us onboard either....maybe we should pack those blue blazers.
