Waterpump Fun

29 November 2007 | Thunderbolt, GA
As we continued to travel we were having occasional overheating problems. Always at idle, never at full throttle. The general consensus among friends and mechanics was that our 20 yr old freshwater pump may be giving up. Rather than wait for the tell-tale bearing squeal, we decided to ship a new one to Thunderbolt. Replacing it was not hard, figuring out which pump was the right one to order for a 20 yr old engine without a clear model number was. With help from a very patient voice with Superior Diesel in Charleston, we finally picked one. It was a 50-50 chance and for once we landed in the right half. After a few more fits and starts we were able to get the right gasket material and get back on our way. Good thing. Those free Krispy Kreme donuts delivered dockside every morning can be habit forming.
