To Old Town

17 April 2012 | Old San Juan, PR
Lisa-85 and sunny
Sunday we took the car all the way up to San Juan to visit the Old San Juan historic area. This is the original part of San Juan built by Spain starting about 400 years ago. Spain held Puerto Rico for 400 years and fought off many adversaries from the forts built overlooking the harbor. We walked through town and followed the old wall out to El Morro - the original fort with parts going back to the 1500's. Kewl!
Most of the "city" is now shops and restaurants. The cruise ships dock nearby and the area is a major tourist attraction. The architecture alone is worth the visit.
After walking forever, we drove to the big huge mall-Plaza Las Americas. Ugh-more walking. Madeline really wanted to visit and overall it was fine until she lost her purse - with her Ipod Touch in it. We know it was left in the dressing room at Forever 21 but it was not there when we returned. Major bummer. Her Ipod is very important to her but we don't have the $$$ to replace it now :-(. Lesson learned-the hard way.
WE got home pretty late and were absolutely drenched on the dinghy ride back to the boat. It's about 1/2 mile - more ugh. We decide to check in to the marina a day early instead of trying to drag our provisions across the bay. Good decision!!
