We saw this along the road while walking.

It's a beautiful morning...

Today is a beautiful day! It really helps your attitude when the sun is shining. Although it is Memorial Day back home, it is Whit Monday here in the Bahamas. Yep-a holiday so everything is closed. Rock Sound is a nice sized village and we have yet to check out all the stores, etc. since most of them are closed on Sundays too.
We decided to take a walk and check out the Ocean Holes on this island. There are 2 within walking distance. These are big huge holes in the island that go way down (over 600 feet) so the water in them is ocean water. One of them is right in town and has been made in to a park area. I guess it is the town's main swimming area. The other one we looked at was in the scrub area off the main road. There were some cave area around the edges but we decided not to climb in. It was good to get off the boat and walk. We realized the kids had not been on land for 8 days!!
The pic is from the big swimming hole in town. No one swimming yet but it was still early in the day!

Where's the sun??

Monday 5-21 we decided to head for Shroud Cay. This is another uninhabited cay in the Exumas that has some old ruins and creeks that you can dinghy through. It's supposed to be cool. But, we never found out because it rained and rained and rained. We had a bit of wind too that kept Dale up on anchor watch. We sat there for 2 more days in the pouring rain with no phone service, no internet and no people. A few other boats were sitting it out with us too. We finally decided that if it was going to rain we might as well be somewhere with laundry and a grocery store so on Thursday we headed over to Eleuthera - another island in the Bahamas. It was almost a full day trip with nice winds, clouds but only a little rain. Maybe our luck was changing!! Nope-Friday it poured all day long too. Saturday we awoke to SUN -OMG. We quickly started hanging stuff on the lines and opening up the boat. I was wiping mildew off the walls too. Ugh. We took the opportunity to go get some groceries as the cupboards were getting pretty low. Then I spend the rest of the day doing 5 loads of stinky laundry while Dale and kids cleaned the boat and filled us up with water.
Today is Sunday 5-27-2012. We are sitting in Rock Sound and it is cloudy again with some on and off drizzle. Most everything is closed on Sundays and we found out Monday is a holiday here (Whit Monday). So, I guess we'll be hanging around the boat again. 
Our plans are to head up the island of Eleuthera stopping here or there and then head to Nassau on June 9th to provision the boat and then meet our friends on the 10th. Seems really strange but we will be leaving for the US in less than a month. We are actually all looking forward to getting back home. I am sure the rain has helped that feeling along too. You can only handle so much "paradise" . Bottom line - we are bored. Never thought I would say that.

Mystery fish

Does anyone know what this guy is??

I have looked in 2 shark books and found nothing. He is about 2.5 to 3 feet long. Several of these guys, a huge grouper and a bunch of jacks liked to hang out around our boat hoping for food. But - no feeding the fish in the park. The pic was taken off the boat - It's hard to tell there is even water there cuz it's so clear.

Lisa, is that a remora with the big sucker thing on it's head? We had a couple of them hanging out under our boat when we returned from a snorkel. Scared the heck out of me.

YEP-it has been confirmed that it is a Remora. I never knew.
Blow holes

Lots of blow holes - neat, even if they weren't "blowing" due to lack of wind.

We were there too
