Not the Trip We'd Hoped For

We’re at the boat again. We came down with high hopes for a visit with Jack and another old friend, Stu, who we haven’t seen for umpteen years. Stu had a trip scheduled for a trade show in Austin. The trade show part fell through, but Stu was going to come anyway, and Jack suggested the two of them come down here to the boat if Bud and I could make it.
We could, so Jack talked to Stu and plans were made for the two of them to come Thursday and stay with us two nights. Bud made a huge pan of lasagna, which he froze and brought down in a cooler. Bud brought his golf clubs because they planned to try a local course. It’s always a treat for us to see friends, and to have two old friends join us on the boat was something we’d really enjoy. If weather and water levels cooperated we might even try taking them out for a sail.
We were more than half way down when I happened to check my email on my phone. There was an email from Jack; Stu couldn’t make the trip so all plans were off. What a disappointment.
But, we got to check out the boat, and all was fine. We also got to finish the installation of a new gauge for the holding tank for the forward head. Bud had installed the sending unit a couple of months ago, so it was nice to get it finished and have it working.
Today we took the day to take Matey to another beach. We drove to Galveston and took the ferry to the Bolivar Peninsula. The day was reasonably warm, but foggy. Matey had a nice run, he didn’t chase the shore birds this time, I think he’s already figured out he can’t catch them.
We’re leaving in the morning. Today was not a good day for photos, so instead of nice pictures of friends aboard, golfing or maybe sailing, you get a picture of the new gauge. At least it works. Notice the nice red backlighting.
