Matey Gets a New Friend

We got an email inviting us to an open house for Poodle Rescue of Houston. We decided to go and show them what a fine dog Matey is, and to assure them that he is perfectly house trained. Another of the boaters here, David, was admiring Matey and we told him about Poodle Rescue of Houston and their open house. He has had several standard poodles, and at one time two at once. He was interested in getting a dog about Matey’s size. We talked him into going to the open house with us. Well you can probably see where this is going.
Bud, Matey and I had a nice visit. Happily, one of the volunteers who’d known Matey was there. She was thrilled to find out that his second placement was working out so well. David had a nice visit, too, and came home with Rusty. Rusty’s a four-year-old red miniature poodle. Rusty and a second dog lived with a man whose fiancée told him she would not marry him unless he got rid of his dogs. So he did! The consensus is that either he will soon regret this and end up a divorced man without his faithful friends, or he’s a pretty shallow guy himself and they deserve each other. Meanwhile, David and Rusty are doing OK. Rusty is already getting attached to David, but David is sure he’s looking for his former owner in every car that pulls in the parking lot and new person he sees. Poor doggy. I tried to tell him that I was sure he would be better off with David but I’m not sure he understood. He’ll learn.
Now there are two dogs from Poodle Rescue of Houston in the marina and Matey has a new friend.
