There was a time when the thought of staying in an anchorage for a month, even in a beautiful bay like Tenacatita, was quite honestly, daunting. However, if you have a month to kill before heading back up to the bustling Banderas Bay, what better place is there to be?

Tenacatita is a beautiful bay with an impressive cruising community where you’ll see anywhere from 10 to 40 boats at anchor. The size of the surf tends to change almost daily. Big surf days equal challenging dingy landings but desirable surfing for the kids; both entertaining to watch! Boredom wasn’t an issue. There were the daily activities of swimming to the beach, sand volleyball, bocce ball, and Mexican Train Dominoes, followed by beverages at the palapa restaurant. For Endeavor, we generally filled our days with school, surfing, kayaking, walking the beach and the occasional sand volleyball game, and the usual reading and nightly movies. What was there not to love? Time seemed to fly by…

Unlike last year, the bay was crystal clear and about 83 degrees, until the last week of our stay when the water turned murky and dipped down to the mid 70’s. It was about then when we started feeling antsy to move on. We roughed it in paradise for almost a month. We did laundry in the bucket on deck and made the weekly 30 minute dingy ride across the bay to La Manzanilla for supplies. We slowly started to miss the conveniences of walking into town for provisioning, the occasional meal out, and our beloved lavandarias (laundry service) .

We waited out a nasty Northerly that was blowing down from the Sea of Cortez and along with half of the anchorage; we headed north towards Banderas Bay on March 2nd. Of course our forecast was a little off and it continued to blow like stink the entire way making for an annoying passage. But, we made it safe and sound into La Cruz right at sunrise and in plenty of time to make it to the Sunday Market!
