Day 2 - Port Denarau, Fiji to Opua, NZ
21 October 2017 | 22 50.4'S:175 32.4'E, South Fiji Basin
What a difference a day makes! As promised by our weather router (Bruce Buckley) both wind and sea-states moderated over the day and night and we woke up today to a beautiful day. Yes, we still had 1-1.5m swells, but the period made them much more comfortable. The wind had also come around a bit more to the east allowing us to sail a little free (no longer hard on the wind). Last night around midnight we took out the second reef and this morning at first light we took out the first reef. Around noon, a bigger shift to the east came through with higher winds meaning that we had to put the first reef back in and get the boat settled into the new wind direction. Our second day saw us roll up 170nm - another good day under sail. Currently we are moving well at 8-9kts, at 90-110 apparent wind. It is nice to have Cindy feeling well because we got a great lunch of beef burgundy and mashed potatoes!
