Merry Christmas
Roni
12/25/2010, 12 32.07'N:61 23.2'E, Petite St Vincent

Leon Redbone crooned "How'd You Like to spend Christmas, on Christmas Island" on our cockpit speakers as we waved like Santa from his sleigh and headed out to Petite Martinique and Petite St. Vincent. Christmas Eve, we hosted a beach party, flipping our kayak over atop two five gallon buckets, covered with the cockpit table cloth, a swag of greens and pince cones, and dotted with faux votive candles. James made chili, of course, as our contribution to pot luck. Meat pie was apparently traditional for a French family, that was delicious. Our crowd included people from South Africa, Canada, US, Finnland, France, and Germany. Time for our Christmas swim, Happy Holidays!

Right next to Paradise
12/21/2010, 12 29.1'N:61 28.9'W, Sandy Island, Carriacou

Motored over to pick up a buoy off Sandy Island, a picture perfect marine park. Unfortunately, Ivan blew away most of the reef but the lee side still has some lovely snorkeling. We're planning on a short dinghy trip to Paradise Bay where a beach bar awaits us!

To Market, To Market
12/18/2010, St. George's

We met a farmer and his wife harvesting their small plot just above Concord Falls, on our trip with Cuddy. "Don't miss de market tomorrow," they said, "we be dare, right next to the toilets. Come early before all de good stuff gone." So, 5 a.m. the next day, we're stumbling along the street, too early even for the buses! We arrived at the market along with the vendors, so we just got a cup of coffee at a little stall and sat to watch the place wake up. Our first purchase of Japanese eggplants and okra was in the dark, but a bit later the place came to life. Check out our market album.
Today was a boat work day. . .James squished himself into the engine compartments rechecking fuel filters, impellors, belts etc. All looked good, yet our port engine alarm goes off above 2300RPM s. Who knows. Untangled lines on main that were giving us hoisting problems, discovered our sat phone's data base unit has a loose connection, flushed out main water tank, did laundry. We're set to go!
