We left Chateaubelair, St. Vincent and sailed to Charlestown Bay, Canouan on Monday May 19. Canouan - in The Grenadines - is part of St. Vincent. It was a good sail. We took it easy and read for that day and the next. Gary was able to easily take Windy to shore in the kayak for her twice-a-day walk.
We decided to go into town on Wednesday to buy a few groceries and get internet. We took down the dingy and motored (with Windy) to a close by dock. While there, a local fisherman (Wilbert) asked if we wanted any conch. Gary said that he would really like a conch shell to make a horn for blowing at sunset. We had a wonderful shell that SeaUs (Ryan and Olivia) made for us. A worker dropped it off our boat in Rodney Bay Marina, St. Lucia and we were not able to find it. Wilbert delivered a beautiful replacement shell to us the next morning before we left.
On Thursday, May 22, we went to Saline Bay, Mayreau. It is a wonderful friendly island with lots of dogs. There is a sign on the island stating that there is a $600 US fine for poisoning dogs. We took a walk with Just Imagine... and Never Bored to Salt Whistle Bay. Due to its volcanic origins, Mayreau has some extremely steep hills! We stayed for our anniversary (May 23, 39 years). In the morning we got a delivery of warm banana bread that we had ordered the night before.
Since we are still having dingy motor problems we took the kayak to shore for dinner. We had a great meal at the Island Paradise Restaurant. It is run by James Alexander. It is a bit of a walk up the hill (Gary: LONG, STEEP hike!). We had a wonderful dinner in a friendly setting.
Since Never Bored and Just Imagine... were in Petit, St. Vincent we sailed there on Saturday. It took us an hour and a half to get there. It is a private island. In the afternoon we kayaked to another country. Petite Martinique is part of Grenada and Petit St. Vincent is part of St. Vincent.
Chris & Sheila introduced us to a delightful restaurant on the beach in Petite Martinique named The Palm Beach Restaurant. Run by a wonderful local couple, the husband picked us up for free in an 18' run-about while his wife ran the restaurant. We had a delicious meal (Cracked Conch for me & BBQ ribs for Gary) with baked Alaska for dessert. After dinner, the husband brought us back to our boats.
Sunday morning we sailed to Frigate Island. It is a small island off Union Island, St. Vincent. It's a protected anchorage from the seas that still lets the wind blow for the wind generator.
