Back in Grenada

We left the Trinidad & Tobago Sailing Association anchorage just before 12 Midnight on Friday, July 18. It took us over an hour to navigate around islands and through a relatively narrow channel (bocca) to get out to the open ocean. Naturally, we were extremely happy to have a chartplotter GPS to help find our way in the dark!
We arrived at our mooring in Prickly Bay, Grenada at 1:30 pm Saturday. There was a north-flowing current until we got about 30 miles from Grenada. At one point a wave washed over the deck and got me soaking wet at the helm. We are so glad to be back in Grenada. It's cooler here and there's a much better wind blowing through the anchorage here.
My Birthday came in with a bang. At 1:30 am on July 25 I was awakened by a terrible storm. There were waves hitting under the bridge deck (being generated just from the wind blowing across the bay) and we were being pelted by rain. The wind hit like a wall and was clocked at up to 60 miles per hour. Two boats in Prickly Bay drug on their anchors - one went onto some rocks & was towed to the marina dock for emergency repairs. Then, we had a few cruiser friends over for chocolate cake in the afternoon. It was very nice. Then when I got on the internet on Sunday, I had many birthday wishes. Thank you all very much.
There are so many things to do here in Grenada. There is a Cruisers Information Net at 7:30 am every morning. They talk about the weather, announce all the social activities and parts wanted or for sale / trade. Then business announces their specials and events.
We go to Tia Chi two days a week, which is held at the Prickly Bay Marina. Then there is Mexican Train Dominoes on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons. A shopping bus runs on Fridays where the driver takes the people to several different stores and has plenty of room for all the groceries. Gary plays chess Tuesday & Friday afternoons and a Trivia Game Tuesday nights at Prickly Bay Restaurant. His team last year did extremely well, but most of them left and he's still trying to find a good group for this summer. He's won prizes of a free pizza, 6-pack of beer, bottles of rum punch and a couple times the use of Prickly Bay Marina's "donut" for two hours. This holds up to 10 people with an outboard engine and comes with three free pizzas and a case of beer. Sunday is movie night & Mondays there is half price pizza at Prickly Bay Marina as well.
Carnival is coming up soon so we'll be going to parades and a steel pan band completion as part of that celebration.
