The trials and sailing tales of Denny & Diane
Back In the USA
05/03/2007, Lake Worth

Back in the USA!
The highlight of the stay at Ocean Reef was doing a night dive, at Diane's urging, with Grand Bahama Diving. It was a shallow dive of only 20', but it allowed me to stay down for an hour. It was so kewl being able to pet parrotfish while they were asleep.
We then headed up to West End for the night then made the 60 mile crossing over to Lake Worth. The trip was uneventful, with 2-3' seas and 5-10 Knt winds. Both out of the southeast. By 5:00 we are anchored in Lake Worth and ready for a good night's rest. We will deal with Customs and Immigration (jack booted thugs) in the morning

Fall 2006
The Cliff Diving
04/30/2007, Great Stirrup

Hoffmans Cay is the destination today. Hoffmans has a "Blue Hole" on the interior of the island. There is small cliff where people jump off into the hole. Diane and I have told our mates that we will be doing the 30 feet jump.
They are encouraging, but will not be jumping themselves. Diane is a bit reluctant, but makes the jump to the cheers from the gang!!!!!!!!! For us it is a great accomplishment, we are easily amused?.
We have a very nice evening at anchor. The Berry Islands still remain very quiet, as few cruisers visit here. So naturally we enjoy them very much!!!!!!!!!!

After Hoffmans we anchored at Panton Cove, which is at "Great Stirrup Cay", for two nights, and then make the trip over to Lucaya.
The trip over is 60 miles of open ocean so fishing is the plan, as there is no wind and a small gentle swell. No fish and no wind, BUMMER!

Fall 2006
Moving North
04/18/2007, Nassau

4-17-07 24 23.052"N: 76 33.015"W

The front did come through and the wind picked up to 30 out of the west, the anchors all held, we just rolled a bit with the swell working in from the cut.
We meet Sandy and Gillian on "S/V Lost Horizon" who were looking for a spot to hide and Chet hailed them and talked them into the little bay we are in. They invite us all over for "Sundowners". Another nice couple, they are headed south and we share lies over some rum and frozen drinks, that Diane made.
The seas and wind settled down so we are headed up to Norman's Cay today. Unfortunately when we come out of our harbor, the wind is still blowing 10-15, and the seas are 3-5 dead on the nose. It is real uncomfortable and SLOW! We decide to bail out, why get beat up if we don't have to, and head in for Emerald Rock mooring field. Chet and Lou proceed on to Norman's. And we will catch up to them in a day or so in Nassau.

4-18-07 25 05.440"N: 77 13.915"W
A bit of a rolly night on the mooring but basically a nice night. Today we are headed for Nassau. The wind is out of the southwest at 10-15, and the seas are on the stern quarter at 2-3.
By the time we get to Rose Island the wind is pretty steady 15-20, so Bottom Harbor (Rose Island), would not bea good choice. We proceed around the north side of Rose Island and drop the hook. It was a 59 mile run, so the crew and captain are whipped!
