Making Our Way to the Sun!

We're still enjoying King City. No big lights and fanfare around here. Just a nice park (see photo) and small rural town seemingly based mostly on produce farming. It also seems to be the capital of mom & pop grocery stores about the size of your normal 7-11 store. I know I've seen well over a dozen in an area smaller than Anacortes. Even though they compete with a full sized Safeway just down the street. And the smells (good) wafting out from behind the little grill in the back where they prepare lunch and such for the locals. Most are run by Mexican folk and usually have a good supply of southwest ingredients. One of the larger ones, about 2X the normal 7-11 size, had cow & pig parts on display in the meat counter that I didn't even know (or want to know) that existed. I think my favorite was the gallon jar labeled "pickled pig feet, snouts, & tails" sitting open on top of the meat counter. Just reach in and help yourself! And for the most part groceries are less expensive than Anacortes. Limes @ 10 cents each...bunches of cilantro 25 cents...and so on. We also went wild in a local used DVD, shop stocking up on selections from 99 cents to $2.99 each! Yeah, I know....us retarded (retired) folks look for fun in all sorts of weird places. I think today we will hang out in the local laundramat, do a few clothes, and watch the locals in action. Sounds exciting, eh?

Yesterday was Halloween and seems like most of the local kids were being towed around town on foot by their mom all dressed up in scary outfits (the kids, not the mom's!) trying to "trick or treat" the local merchants, who were also in outfits. Seems that holidays are a big deal around here.
