Brother John always find the wildlife, and on this paddle just before nightfall, we saw a huge array of birds massing in the mangrove trees for the night: Herons, egrets, ibus, coromorants and pelicans, all pushing and shoving, honking and grunting and clacking in many voices and generally raising a ruckus.

Our nightly ritual in Tenecatita Bay is to paddle the kayaks ashore through the surf, then walk barefoot down a mile of wide open beach, rolling small coconuts like bowling balls for Sammy to chase down.
