There are a number of niggling little to-do's that don't require sandpaper, screwdrivers or trips to the chandlery. This is a short list of steps made and yet to make. I am sure there are more and we are wide open to suggestions.

Bank:
• consolidate accounts and setup on-line access
• arrange for and have email or phone number to inform bank of your general location as you travel to avoid security delays
• arrange online deposits and payments
• safe deposit box for important papers, jewelry , etc.
• notify of address change to P.O. Box

Insurance
• health - verify out of state coverage and procedure
• boat insurance - notify when out of cruising area
• home - review coverage
• house - home warrantee for appliances, heating, etc.
• notify of address change to P.O. Box

Post Office:
• mail forward from street to a P.O. Box or a mail forwarding service
In our case, we have an agreement with a friend to pick-up mail at her Post Office, toss the junk mail and forward the rest to us at locations along the way.
• update address books, etc.
• update passports

Attorney
• review and update wills
• Living Wills
• Power of Attorney to a friend or relative for local issues
• all originals in the safe deposit box with copies in the file on board
• notify of address change to P.O. Box

Medical:
• one last round of doctors and dentists before we leave
• get copies of medical records to take along - could save critical time in an emergency
• make arrangements for prescriptions
• jot down major medical facilities along the route
• Pets: up to date on all shots; get and take copies of veterinary records. Current tags on collars/harnesses.

Car:
• since we are renting the house, arrange to store the car [at our marina]
• top off the tank, add fuel stabilizer
• empty and clean before covering
• car cover including tires
• leave a set of keys with a friend and the marina - ask someone to start it once in awhile

Storage of home items
• stackable plastic tubs with sealable tops
• silica gel packs (desiccants)
• vacuum bag fabrics

Contact changes
• notify all that need it - phone, email, and mail address changes

Take a break
