oh, the weather outside is frightful.....

15 March 2008 | Barra de Navidad, Jalisco, Mexico
by the 'Babe' on the bow
excerpts heard on the VHF channel 22 (the cruiser's channel), while anchored in Barra de Navidad's sometimes-typical-windy-laguna afternoon:

"What's the wind speed there?" - "6 knots."
"I am in the sand" "Are you aground?" "I am in the sand." "Are you aground?" "Yes." "I will call for help." "We have a boat aground by the fuel dock." "___ responding." "____ responding." "____ responding." 5 minutes later "We have a boat aground in the channel." "The one by the fuel dock?" "No. this is another." "Anyone have the wind speed?" "22." "You're on channel 22." (ha, ha, ha, that's funny -not) "14 in Melaque (yes but it's like being on a bucking bronco all the time -we've been there). a strong gust "That one was 26." "29." (do I hear 30?) "oh, the weather outside is frightful and there's no place to go, let it blow, let blow, let it blow." "Don't quit your day job." "Keep singing." "Roseti you are dragging." "No, I'm just close- I'll re-anchor." "Amifali you're dragging." "Do you have your ears on?" "I see you in your cockpit." "I think you are dragging." "You're dragging." "Do you have a snubber line on?" (hey, that's those guys form El Cid) the usual re-anchoring boat shuffle "There's a small power boat going through the anchorage with a line wrapped around it's prop." "Who put the line there? ha, ha." (boo) "Give them a break it's a father and small children." (go, sweetie, go)"What are they doing skiing in the anchorage?" (OMG) "They are floating through the anchorage-they need help." (hello!?) people go to help - 30 minutes later: "Thanks to everyone who helped the small power boat and shame on you to the people who made the negative comments, remember we are all boaters and a boat in distress is a boat in distress. Remember karma."
"Amen" (Amen - brother!)
