Leave Marina Chahue 1200 hours.

We decide to CROSS the dreaded Tehuantepec Gulf, not stay close to shore like all the guide books reccomend. We figure it is risky either way and we should have a long enough weathr window AND besides Enrigue says to just cut straight across, avoiding traffic and running into fishing lines- 'Sharpen your knife if you stay close to shore', Enrigue says.

The engine will remain ON until we get safely to the other side (40 hours) with or without sails up - unless we can sail at 5.5 knots.

We had some wind and waves to start with so we motor sailed until the evening when the wind and waves died. Slept well due to steady noise and motion of motoring but it is still weird to wake up after only 3 hours, REM sleep (?) - seem to wake up with a fright mostly, talk about waking up and not knowing where you are!
