This life isn't a dress rehersal, live it to it's fullest

I wanted to provide a little update as to what is happening for the crew of Scott Free. In March, 4 weeks after getting back on the boat for the season my mom called to say she fell and needed me back up in the NW to help her and move her closer to her daughters. She finally had come to terms that 3.5 hours away from any family or support was too far. So out of Loreto I flew leaving Scott to get the boat hauled out and bottom painted as we had originally planned.

It became clear that it wasn't going to be a short trip for me as moving someone who has been living in the same place for 23 years and believes all her things are precious would take a while to pack up. So, we got her name on a list for an apartment in Everett and began packing. With her poor health a couple hours a day was the maximum we could tackle. I was determined to let her sort through her things and not force her to part with her belongings sooner than she was ready as I knew we would both survive living together better; but she was going from 900 sq.ft. to 700 sq. ft. No, she isn't moving in permanently with us but her apartment wasn't going to be ready until mid-May and she was ready to leave mid-April and I had movers lined up.

You have to understand, Mom is in a bit of a fragile state since pop passed away and her health isn't robust. The slightest exertion gives her an angina attach and some days she is so blue she doesn't want to get out of bed or get dressed. I understand and am not disparaging her, I'm just painting a picture of my days. Anyway, Scott and I aren't used to and don't enjoy being apart so he came back up here to help me with the move and stayed a couple weeks. May 1st Scott returned with Rod from SV Isabella to get Scott Free back down to La Paz where we had a slip reserved for the summer.

After much thought and discussion we are at a crossroads as to how to be there for mom, be present in our new grandchild's life and our families. So, after 4 years in Mexico we are considering bringing the boat home and exploring more of our beautiful PNW. Of course some family members are overjoyed and some are upset as their vacation destination is moving to cooler climates. We similarity have mixed feelings. With the current state of the available yacht shipping company (bankruptcy) we aren't clear if Scott Free will come home this summer or not and have exciting thoughts about both outcomes. Adaptive as we are, we'll enjoy either way and know life isn't a one way street. U TURN IS POSSIBLE!

Sometimes life happens. When we left La Paz the plan was to spend the next 3 months out and about in the Sea and get the boat bottom painted in Puerto Escondido. The hope was to make up for last year's shortened cruising season. Well, I've always said life is one phone call away from change and I got the call. My mom called asking me to come home to help her after she took a couple of falls. I caught a flight out of Loreto leaving Scott on a mooring in Puerto Escondido and have been here for the past 10 days.

Mom is healing and we have accelerated her move up to Everett into a senior apartment leaving me packing and packing and packing. 23 years in one place tends to allow a lot of accumulation! Scott has the boat out of the water and is living on the hard in the yard while the painting is taking place. He's serviced the thru hauls, filters and other assorted boat systems making good use of this time.

Mom and I did travel to our house in Everett for the Easter holiday where we got to spend it with family. We had a great time and enjoyed the time away from the mess of boxes. Moving day is the 20th and I'm hoping that a flight down to Loreto will happen very shortly thereafter. Until then I'm hoping the phone doesn't ring again.

Moving north

We leave in the morning for Islands and anchorages north. The norther seems to have pasted and we are finishing up items that needed internet connection so we can spend a few days dis-connected. Between La Paz and Loreto there are no cell phone towers that sends the signal as far as the water as they follow Mexico 1 inland so we go quiet for a few days of travel.

For the next 3 weeks we are on the same time zone as home. The states have made their daylight savings time adjustment but Mexico doesn't move their clocks ahead until Sunday April 7th. Just when we'll get used to it things will change again. Humm, seems to be a theme with life!

All is well here, we've had friends on other boats here with us and have hiked around the bay. This is a great place to be as far as weather and connections. We likely won't be back down this way until May but will consider it when we don't want to be in the marina.

Last night on our way back to our boat from having sundowners aboard Interabang we had amazing phosphorescence in the water. A trail behind the dingy from the outboard was 12 feet long and the bow sent sparkles through the water. As we would approach fish they would send shooting streams off in every direction. It was truly magic and a memory we'll keep for a while.

We're doing well on our ability to keep charged with the solar panels. Their output decreases with heat so the mid to high 70's is working well to keep the fridge from running to often and allowing max output from the panels. We've only had to run the generator once and mostly because we wanted to watch movie and fully charge computers and phones. I am disappointed in the battery life of my cell as it doesn't seem to last a full 24 hours. My computer battery is nearly flat and only last about 40 minutes without being plugged in so we hope it won't interrupt usage while being plugged in as well as we've heard stories from others who had problems.

All and all, we're ready to move north and see other places. Life is good and we are blessed beyond belief for our experiences!
