This life isn't a dress rehersal, live it to it's fullest
We are back!

Oh boy does it feel good to be here, back home on my boat. We arrived in Cabo after an uneventful flight and quickly made our way through customs and immigration with no stops, yeah! A quick cab ride to the condo and we quickly dawned our suits for a quick dip before dinner. It was surprisingly how chilly the pool felt so it was the hot tub that held us for an hour or so. It was just a few weeks ago that the water in the pool was so warm that it wasn't really refreshing but just wet. We had dinner at a nice place in downtown San Jose and then ended the night early after the day of travel.

Our 3 hour and 16 minute bus ride from San Jose to La Paz was also without incident and we were met by Jane to haul us to the marina. Rod and Jane have their car here this year so that has been great these first couple days. We unpacked and began pulling stuff out from inside the boat; solar panels, canvas, lines, bbqs, cushions, etc. We were quickly getting things back in order aboard Scott Free. Dinner at Tailhunter with Rod and Jane with a quick trip to the Cow Store for a few staples ended the first day.

Today we awoke so refreshed after sleeping in our comfy bed and the comfort of being home. With the boat being the place we've lived the majority of time for the past 3 and half years this does truly feel like home. Anyway, I gave Scott a haircut and we took showers then I went shopping with Jane to get groceries onboard and Rod helped Scott get the sails back up. By 4 o'clock we had mostly finished with the dingy splashed and went for a cocktail cruise to welcome Cetus and Prairie Oyster who came into the Marina today. With their arrival I think all members of the dock 3 club are back secure and ready for safety meetings which start at sunset tomorrow.

Safety meetings are just an excuse to get together for a dock party and watch the sunset, which has been fabulous! Oh a quick note, the weather is perfect, high 70's low 80's during the day and low 60's at night.

Almost Back

We are packing our bags, finding our passports and sandals as we get ready to head back down to the boat. Our trip north has been very sucessful with us finding a place to call home for part of the year when we come here to escape the summer heat. The work on the house is nearly complete and should be ready for move-in after the first of the year.

We are returning to the boat for 3 weeks to re-commison her after hurricane season. Excited doesn't begin to sum up how we feel about getting back on our floating home. We are anxious to sleep in our bed, walk around in shorts and t-shirts and see all of our floating friends. So, Tuesday will dawn early as we head south beginning our short interlude back aboard Scott Free.

So glad to hear that the house is coming together and that you are getting ready to head back to the boat! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures down south.

So after spending our second summer in the sea we decided that life didn't have to be an endurance test and that we would start spending summers back in the Northwest where summers can be the best in the country. With home prices at a low point we came home in September and began our search for a nice modest little casa to call home for a few months a year and one that would eventually join our rental house pool. Of course we have our big house that was our life before leaving on the boat but it is rented to great renters and it is just more house than we want to have for part time use.

Our first week back in the Seattle area we began the search; wanting to find a foreclosure bargain that we could remodel and make comfortable for us. We found it and closed last week on the "Red House". In one week's time we have torn out everything down to the sub floor and sheet rock plus one wall. By the end of next week we should start to put things back in. We are taking advantage of the local electric company's conservation funds by getting rebates on appliances, toilets, insulation and new vinyl windows. We'll post pictures of the project as we go along.
