River Traffic
13 February 2012 | Marios on rio Dulce
rainy
We traveled up the Rio Dulce about 18 miles to arrive at our present marina.
There are no real villages visible but are said to be up some little creeks. However there is quite a bit of traffic going up and down river. The picture is of what I would call a "bus" bringing people to Livingston. There are also small dugout canoes called cayucos beling expertly paddles against the current on the river. They frequently have only a couple of inches of freeboard and the indians are very small people but obviously strong. Even here at the marina everyone travels by the river, in fact many of the marinas have no road access.
We are presently experiencing unseasonal rainy weather. Not tropical storms but rather persistent rain and drizzle. We have a time line however as we need a high tide of 1.5 ft or more during daylight hours to leave the river, so no waiting around long for the rain to stop, just get wet.
