Newport Beach
05 October 2010
After 8 days on Catalina island we traveled back to the mainland and took a mooring ball at Newport Beach. It has been dark and stormy all day with occasional rain showers..... typical Seattle weather which has so graciously followed us to Southern Cal!
We have been planning on Newport Beach for years ever since we read an article about $5 per night moorage. We plan to spend a few days here and explore.
Our batteries are more depleted than I expected because the regulator went into "float" almost immediately after start up this morning. The job of the smart regulator is to sense the condition of the batteries and put the correct amount of amperage back in, it then steps down as the batteries are recharged until finally the float stage puts back a trickle as to not over charge, however mine has jumped directly to float? I plan to call Balmar (the manufacturer) to get some insight.
We cranked up the gas generator this afternoon to keep charging.
I want to once again recommend the position tracker and to download google earth to enhance the map. You can drill down right to where the boat is presently ( Remember the pictures are weeks, months old so you wont see our boat but you will see the exact location of the boat.
