Hottt and sticky
Sorry for so long between blogs it has been a busy week installing my new fuel system that Andrew and Stephanie carried down to us.
Monday was a supply run to San Salvador with our own personal taxi driver Jose. He practised his English and I practised my Spanish. We went to seven different locations to buy what I thought was a complete list of fittings to make the unit work both electical and "plumbing" fittings. Jose was great we got his life story and quick visit to his home town on the way home.
Getting any kind of part is an all day affair with a $50 taxi ride, so we dont do it often. Began dry fitting on Tuesday and found out as I kneeew I would that I was missing parts. I installed what I could and took the pump to a local man who owns the mooring ball we are on. He was going to San Salvador and would try to get us the part we needed.
Wednesday we drilled, and wired and went as far as we could go with out the missing part. Thursday I collected the fittings completed the installation primed the filter with diesel and everything ran well.
The system consists of a Racor 500 series with drop in cartridge filter. I added another shut off valve just before the inlet side so I dont have to go to the tank for the shut off. I added a vacuum guage immediately after the Racor with electric wires fed to my nav station that now have an idiot light for when the suction guage shows restriction (this would indicate time to change the filter.)
Downstream from the Racor is an electric fuel pump that will allow me to run even if the engine pump dies and better yet allows me to "bleed" the air out of line after a filter change with a simple touch of the switch.
I am like a proud new papa, and currently basking in the glow of a job well done!
Connie is chasing bugs in the oatmeal so I have to help and keep her from doing any real damage with the shot gun!
