Dolphin, Whales & Tsunami Debris

Today has turned out to be beautiful, blue skies, sunshine and temp in the 60's. Around 3 pm a pod of about 100 dolphin joined us and played in our bow surf and the prop wash for about 1/2 an hour, jumping out of the water in concert, 3 to 6 at a time, amazing and a delight to watch. We've seem to be sharing our course with the whales, they are going North and us South. We got to watch 2 whales breaching and slapping their flippers and as we passed they came up behind us slapping again, was great. As for the Tsunami debris, we've spotted five black, 2-3 ft round fenders in the water floating free plus a lot of styrofoam pieces, obviously pieces of docks, but today was the best; I spotted a huge piece of white styrofoam, basically the shape of a cylinder, the biggest piece of flotsam we'd seen yet. As I was showing it to KC we all of sudden saw a small fin come up and circle the styrofoam, and then it circled it again and again until we could no longer see it. It was a small shark circling the styrofoam. Very odd we thought.
We are currently off Cape Blanco, about 65 miles N of the OR/CA border and hoping to miss an unexpected gale that is forecast for Tuesday afternoon. New forecast and it keeps changing so hopefully we'll miss it or at least most of it.
