Whales!

We spotted numerous whales today while crossing Monterey Bay, the first of which surfaced approximately 25' off the bow on the starboard side, resurfaced again approximately 25' off our port side, and then surfaced two more times parallel our port side approximately a boat length away! A little closer than we care for and surprisingly close especially as we weren't sailing, we were motoring and they normally avoid us. Becca was especially excited about spotting the whales as she has never seen one before! We also got to watch a whale breach and slap its tail and flukes, he gave us quite a show although he was quite a ways off! We've also seen a few dolphin, sea lions, seals and otters today plus lots of birds!
The weather was still chilly this morning with some wind but it was from the South so we weren't able to sail. Off and on during the day we've been able to put up the main and jib to motor sail. When the sun does break through the high haze it's really quite pleasant, it's currently around 65.
