Heading for San Miguel Island
19 July 2012 | Off Pt. Arguella, CA
JoLe & KC Wilson
We left San Simeon Bay this morning around 9 a.m. for San Miguel Island, the northernmost of the Channel Island group. We're actually sailing, until we get there, 110 miles. Depending on our speed, which so far today has been quite good, between 6.5 - 7 knots under sail, we should arrive in Cuyler Bay on the East side of the Island sometime in the early morning. We were hoping to go into the anchorage with daylight but at this point it looks like an early morning (3am) arrival is on the horizon. We will be passing Pt. Arguello and then Pt. Conception sometime tonight where the air is supposed to turn warmer, fingers crossed, although the weather today has been quite nice, sunshine, blue sky, 15 - 20 knots of wind from the NW, and about 64 degrees. We are all going to have face and hand tans, we'll have to work on filling in the tan at a later date! The only off thing today are the waves, not that big, 3 - 5 feet, but the seas are from the NW and the swells are from the W and we're heading SSW across them so now and again we get rolled 30 degrees. All in all though a pleasant day.
