Today has been fairly uneventful, even boring, just a lot of changes in the weather/wind. We've been motor sailing since 4 a.m., prior to that just motoring due to variable light winds. We've just passed St. James Point at the southern tip of the Queen Charlotte Islands and are currently crossing the mouth of Queen Charlotte Sound. We should be across and at the northern tip of Vancouver Island by tomorrow afternoon or early evening, we didn't realize how wide it was (125 miles)as we've always been inside the sound. KC and I have taken the opportunity to catch up on a bit of sleep which has been nice.
On one of KC's watches a little lost land bird kept circling the boat, trying to land. It finally decided that a good place to land was under the dodger; it didn't realize that there was a cat laying in wait. Winona got a feather out of the bird before it took off again! The little bird did come back and landed in a safer area, on the wheel where Winona couldn't reach her. Other than seeing a cruise ship and passing a weather buoy that wasn't where the charts said it was supposed to be, that has been our day.
We have changed our heading quite a bit to make landfall in Neah Bay, WA on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Decided to refuel prior to continuing South to San Francisco since we've ended up motoring more than planned and wanted our reserves in case we have the same situation down the US coast.
