Sunshine, Sunfish, Seals & Sea Lions

We left Monterey this morning for San Simeon Bay, arrived and anchored after spending the afternoon basking in the sunshine! Yes, actual sunshine in the "Sunshine" State. We'd begun to think we weren't in California! The day was also spent watching seals, sea lions and an occasional sea otter basking in the sun. In addition we spotted two sunfish. If you've never seen a sunfish, look them up on the internet, they are some of the most interesting looking things you will ever see. From the boat they look like a plastic bag floating in the water, they do not look like a "fish". We've seen them before, not often though, in the San Diego area. Also had either a blue or fin whale surface off our starboard side while it was feeding, not as close as yesterday though!
The whole reason for anchoring in San Simeon Bay has been to go visit Hearst Castle. We saw Hearst Castle on our way into the bay, and wow! I had no idea, it is actually really a castle, sitting on a hill above Hwy. 101. I'm not sure exactly what I expected, but not an actual castle sitting in the middle of nowhere. I'm now a lot more intrigued than I was before (KC and Becca were all over the visit)!
