As the sun came up yesterday morning we dropped anchor in our new home.
During this small voyage we used our hydrovayne for most of it. Yes after more than 5000 miles of hand steering we finally started using it to selfsteer the boat. Also during our jump we had a brief minor scare; about 30 miles out, our VHF and chartplotter alarms started going off at maximum volume and with sounds we have never heard them make. We discovered this is the alarm for someone hitting their distress button. The distress call was from Tahiti so we didn't turn around for it, knowing they would be helped locally, or that it was a false alarm given the proximity to the marina.
After three attempts at getting the anchor set in 70-80 feet, we launched the dingy and headed into the village for some small errands and to get a lay of the land. Then, after a quick bite we grabbed the snorkels and headed off to the reef for a couple hours. Then off to happy hour with some other cruisers then to a pizza shop, then we all went to Sweedish boat for nightcaps. It was a great day after pulling an all nighter on the cruise. We're tired.
