Time to Abandon Ship

With barely time for the turkey and stuffing to digest, the weather report turned ugly and is forcing us to pack our bags and head for land this morning. As far as storms go, it's really not that big of a deal. But when you are moored in an anchorage that is open to the SE, it's time to leave when 25-30kt winds and 6-10ft swell is expected to come rolling in! It's definitely one of the "issues" with living aboard in Port San Luis, without complete protection from storms. The other family living aboard is also busy packing their bags.
Of course our original plan was to already have moved the boat over to our winter home of Morro Bay, but well...time and schedules have once again played against us. As with many things while living aboard, it takes much less time to SAY it than to do it. First we had to secure the boat to ride out the 6-10ft swells and then we had to pack all the things we need to go about our daily lives...computers, school clothes, food, etc. Lori basically started the abandon ship prep at 8AM and by 3PM we were finally ready to leave with a full dingy load of stuff. But it didn't end there...of course not. We couldn't just leave the dingy tied to the Pier with a storm coming, so we had to pull it out of the water using the Harford Pier crane and set it on top of our Honda CRV.
