Heat Like You Have Never Felt Before!
05 July 2009 | Bahia Conception aka Solar Oven Bay
Capt Rich
When it hit 97 degrees inside the boat today, I knew we had a problem! I was cleaning the bottom of the boat and the kids were being pulled around the El Burro Cove on an tube, but Lori was working in the boat. I'm still not sure how she did it, but we went through all of the kids home school books and separated them into books to keep aboard and books to bring back to Bakersfield when we make the drive later this week. Bahia Conception is a large long and narrow bay ringed by tall rocky mountains which act as a solar reflector keeping the bad a good 10 degrees hotter than the outside, which is why we will soon be back on the outside ourselves. We would have already left, but we scheduled to take a tour of the local rock paintings and artifacts for Monday morning, but as soon as we return to the boat Monday afternoon, we will pull anchor and motor out of the bay to get our first comfortable nights sleep since we entered the bay on the 4th of July.
It's too hot to write blog posts.
It's too hot to work on the DVD.
It's too hot to do home school.
And it's even too hot to go swimming!
About the only thing that it's not too hot for is sweating, but on the good side, our head (a marine toilet is called a head) is getting less use because it seems no matter how much fluids we drink, we never get a chance to pee.
If this is at all a preview of what the summer has in store for us, out Honda generator and 5000Btu air conditioning unit will see lots of action this summer or we will simply die, it's as simple as that! Who came up with this "Summer in the Sea" plan anyway, wait until I get my hands on that genius!
