09/28/2009, of living the cruising dream
365 Days ago today, we literally cut the dock lines from Port San Luis, California and started our cruising adventure. The last year has been filled with adventure, excitement, disapointment, changes of plans and unexpected pleasures and experiences that we couldn't even dream about. But most importantly, I calculate that in the last year we have spent more time together as a family than the "average American family" will in about 10 to 15yrs of two week vacations/yr and weekends. In the end, that's why we are here, why we left "it all" behind and cast off on our 36ft sailboat.
The below YouTube video was taken a year ago as we were casting off. In some ways it's hard to imagine that we have been gone only a year, considering all that we have packed into the last 12 months.
Here's to the next 12 months and beyond and to everyone that has a dream, no matter how large or small. Because if the Boren Family can pull this off, it goes to prove that anything is possible if you simply choose to make it happen.
09/23/2009, Living life as a tourist
A huge party barge is docked on the same marina finger as THIRD DAY, so we became friends with the crew and were invited aboard to see Mexico through the eyes of a party going tourist! We had a great time and Lori got her dance she has been waiting for.
Today is our 14th Wedding Anniversary and I'm sure when she said, "I do" 14 years ago today, she didn't quite have living on a 36ft sailboat and home schooling her two kids aboard in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico in mind. She asked me this moning if this was the "better or worse" part of the deal.
09/17/2009, Punta Penasco Harbor
As we were preparing to pass a floating raft of shrimp boats, they decided to execute a group turn in the middle of the Punta Penasco harbor. It was quite a sight to behold, tons of rusted steel spinning around with the precision of a ballet dancer. We though about joining the dance, but since they are made of steel and we fiberglass, it was thought best to sit this dance out!
